PINEHURST AIRLINES
Pinehurst, an established cargo and charter airline, began scheduled passenger flights between Atlanta and Greenville/Spartanburg using YS-11s in June 1981. An Atlanta - Huntsville route was added later in the year. The airline's original expansion plans included proposed routes from Atlanta to 20 cities around the southeast, but low ridership, high fuel costs and the effects of the PATCO strike forced the company into bankruptcy in January 1982.
